Alma Berrow

Meet #ASCENOGIRL Alma Berrow - our favourite new artist best known for her kitsch and playful ceramic ashtrays. London-based artist Alma found her niche in Lockdown 1.0 and hasn't looked back since. We got to chat all things ceramics and some of her daily rituals.

How did you get into ceramics?

My mother (Miranda Berrow) is an incredibly talented ceramic artist and although as kids we had messed around, we never fully took advantage of it. In the first lockdown I went to stay with her and after a few weeks of being home my sister and I were thieving all the clay we could!

Where do your tongue-in-cheek influences come from?

I think a lot from my imaginations and humans are pretty funny too...I enjoy the small weird moments, the details we no longer see and slip by us and immortalising them in ceramics.

What are your currently working on?

I'm working on a 96 piece private collection, I've never made such a large body of work so it's both exciting and terrifying!

What are your daily rituals?

Eggs on toast, cycle to work, bengal tea and away to the day. Home, bath and bed...bliss!
